Apple...the entree?

Apples offer real versatility that can be enjoyed as part of any meal, during any course, and at any time of the day--from breakfast to late-night beverage!

Breakfast:
Instead of topping your multigrain waffle, French Toast, or pancakes with maple syrup, change it up a little bit with hot, stewed, spiced apples...better yet, put some apples inside the waffles, too! If you enjoy baked goods in the morning, add apples to your favorite muffin, scone, coffee cake, bread, or quick bread recipes. A baked apple, cored and filled with hot cooked cereal, pecans or other nuts, raisins and your favorite spices, can be prepared in the microwave for a hearty, tasty breakfast. Want something really quick and easy? Add sliced apples and granola to your favorite yogurt. And for that breakfast beverage? Instead of your usual orange juice, pour yourself a tall glass of apple juice or cider.

For some tasty new ways to start your day with apples, take a look at the recipes on Frontier's recipe pages. There you'll find the likes of Baked Cranberry Apples, Apple-Oat Quick Bread, Apple Raisin Pancakes, and Autumn Apple Muffins. Or try this recipe from one of our employees for her tasty Apple-Dapple Coffee Cake.

Lunch:
There's almost no limit to the ways you can incorporate apples into your lunch menu. Add some sliced apples to your tuna, chicken, or green salad for additional crunch and sweetness. Sliced apples add crisp flavor to cold bean salads, too. Dip apple wedges into your favorite fruit yogurt, a little peanut or almond butter, or hummus. Add grated apples to plain cream cheese or Neufchatel and enjoy with crackers or small chunks of whole-grain bread. Create a cold vegetable salad with a combination of your favorite veggies (like broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, beets, green onions, and cabbage), add sliced apples for complementary flavor, and toss with a vinegar and oil dressing. And soups? You can add apples to virtually any of your soup and stew recipes. Beef stew, as well as potato, ham and bean, vegetable, cheese, or lentil soups all taste exceptionally good with the addition of diced, unpeeled chunks of apple.

There's a delicious recipe for Apple Vinaigrette Dressing on the Frontier recipe website for you to try in your pasta, bean, vegetable, or green salads! Some other lunch ideas to be fou nd on our recipe website include Fruit and Rice Salad and Waldorf Chicken Salad.

Dinners:
Create a dressing to stuff inside fish, poultry, or pork chops before baking or grilling. Simply combine cooked rice or chunks of dried bread, apple slices, a little butter, apple juice or broth, and your favorite herbs and spices. The sweetness of the apples will add a delicate flavor to the cooked meats, and the dressing will provide a great-tasting side dish. If pizza is popular at your house, consider adding chunks of apple to your next sausage, Canadian bacon, or cheese pizza...and don't forget to add apples to your dessert pizzas, too! Pasta, couscous, frittatas, risotto, and rice dishes are other excellent ideas for entrees or side dishes whose flavor can be heightened by simply adding a few sliced apples and Frontier herbs or spices during cooking time.

Desserts
Apple-based desserts can be as simple as hot, cooked spiced apples topped with a scoop of ice cream, to a delicate apple torte. Your family probably already has its favorite apple pie or apple crisp recipe, but for some new dessert ideas, try Apple Bread Pudding, Karin's Bavarian Apple Torte, Apple Cinnamon Rings, and Simple Apple Cake from our website. (And if you don't have a favorite pie or crisp, those recipes are on the website, too!)
