Spicy Fried Sesame Tofu
1 pound block of extra-firm tofu
3 tablespoons olive oil or 3 tablespoons canola oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup tamari
Cut 1-pound block of tofu into 1/2- to 1-cubes.
Preheat oil in skillet and add tofu. Cook on high heat, stirring to brown. Turn down to medium heat and continue to fry until tofu is brown and crispy on all sides. Add spices and sesame and stir to coat. Cook on high for 2 to 3 minutes more to toast the sesame. Add the tamari. (It will sizzle.) Continue frying until moisture is cooked off, about 2 to 3 minutes more.
Use tofu to top rice or other grains, or add to stir-fried vegetables.
Also good as an appetizer dipped in spicy Thai sauce, or cooled and used to top salads.
