Crisscross Spiced Apples

My son, Connor, named this dish--at the ripe age of 3! The name comes from a poem about making crisscross applesauce.

Ingredients
5  apples, peeled and cored
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Directions
Cut the apples in half lengthwise, then slice cross-wise to make half-moon shapes. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, stir apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg.

Cook for 15 minutes, or until the apples are very soft but still somewhat chunky.
Chef Suggestions
I like to use a tart apple, such as Granny Smith, for this dish.
