Split Pea Soup with Ham

10 cups water, {chicken broth}, or a mixture of both
4 cups dried split peas, rinsed and picked clean
1 cup diced ham
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup sliced carrots
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon crushed dried {marjoram}
1  bay leaf
Put all the ingredients into the slow cooker. Cover with the lid and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. Or cook on high for 6 hours, until the split peas are tender.
