California Transparency in Supply Chains Act Disclosure
Frontier Co-op sources botanicals, ingredients, and essential oils directly from farmer groups or exporters, as well as through other distributors. We purchase packaging material from a range of manufacturers, and our distribution business sources several other brands’ natural products. All told, Frontier buys from nearly 500 suppliers.
Since 2005, the percentage of botanicals and essential oils that we source directly from farmer groups or exporters who work directly with farmers increased from 23 percent to 47 percent, giving us a heightened degree of insight into how these products are produced. Our buyers typically visit these suppliers every one to two years. In 2008, Frontier Co-op launched its Well Earth® program to support suppliers who comply with the program’s social and environmental criteria, which prohibit exploitative labor practices. Many of Frontier Co-op’s products are also fair trade certified or audited via a SEDEX Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA).
