DIY gift making with bulk

 

When you use Frontier Co-op bulk ingredeints to make your own gifts, you go beyond simple gift giving. You save money and you support farming communities and sustainable sourcing around the world. Here are a few simple recipes to get your started and printable gift tags to personalize your gifts. 

Chai-Spiced Hot Chocolate 

You'll need: 

10 cups Frontier Organic Dry Milk Powder 
6 1/2 cups powdered sugar 
3 1/8 cups Frontier Organic Cocoa Powder 
7 teaspoons Frontier Organic Ground Ceylon Cinnamn 
6 teaspoons Frontier Organic Ground Ginger 
4 teaspoons Frontier Organic Ground Cardamom 
3 teaspoons Frontier Organic Allspice 
1/2 teaspoon Frontier Sea Salt 
10 17-ounce jars 

To make: 

1. In a large bowl, combine dry milk powder, powered sugar, cocoa powder, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, allspice and salt. Whisk until well combined.
2. Divide into jars, seal and decorate.  

Get creative: 

To make spiced hot chocoalte, omit the cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and allspice. Attach small bottle of Irish Cream, Kahlua or Peppermint Schnapps to the jars. 

To make a hot chocolate with some heat, replace the cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and allspice with only 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne. 

To make the gifts more visually appealing, layer the ingredeitns instead of mixing together. 

To use: 

Combine 1/2 cup mixture with 1 cup boiling water and stir until well combined. Serve hot chocolate with whipped cream if desired. 

Curry Spiced Mixed Nuts 

You'll need: 

2 tablespoons + 1/4 teaspoon Frontier Sea Salt 
1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons Frontier Organic Cumin 
1 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons Frontier Organic Ground Coriander 
2 tablespoons + 1 1/2 teaspoons Frontier Organic Turmeric 
1 1/2 teaspoons Frontier Organic Ground Cardamom 
1 1/4 teaspoons Frontier Organic Ground Ginger 
1 1/4 teaspoons Frontier Organic Ground Cayenne 
1 1/4 teaspoons Fronter Organic Fenugreek Powder 
5/8 teaspoon Frontier Organic Ceylon Cinnamon 
5/8 teaspoon Frontier Organic Mustard Seed Powder 
1 1/4 cups coconut oil 
Just under 14 pounds mixed nutes (almonds, cashews and pecans) 
10 38-ounce jars 

To make: 

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 
2. In a small bowl, combine salt, cumin, coriander, turmeric, cardamom, ginger, cayenne, fenugreek, cinnamon and mustard seed powder. 
3. In a pot over low heat, melt coconut oil. Stir in the spice mixture and turn off heat. 
4. Working in batches as neccessary, place nuts in a large bowl and coat with spice oil, then toss until well coated. Transfer to parchment-lined baking sheets. Place in oven and roast for 5 to 8 minutes, stirring every 2 to 3 minutes, until aromatic and toasted. Remove from oven and allow to cool. 
5. Divide into jars and seal.

Get creative 

To make smoky spicy nuts, substitue 4 tablespoons paprika, 4 tablespoons smoked paprika, 1 tablespoon cayenne and 1 tablespoon mustard seed powder for the spice mixture. 

To make sweet cinnamon nuts, prepare nuts without spice mixture. Once the oil-coated nuts are cool, dust with a mixture of 4 tablespoons cinnamon and 10 tablespoons sugar. Toss until well coated. 

To use: 

Simply eat up! 

Tandoori Spiced Gourmet Popcorn 

You'll need: 

1 cup Frontier Organic Ground Coriander 
3/4 cup + 2 tablespoons Frontier Organic Ground Ginger 
3/4 cup Froniter Sea Salt 
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons Frontier Organic Ground Cumin 
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons Frontier Organic Ground Turmeric 
1/4 cup Frontier Organic Smoked Paprika 
1/4 cup Frontier Organic Ground Cardamom 
10 small baggies 
16 2/3 cups (about 10 pounds) popcorrn kernels
10 17-ounce jars 

To make: 

1. In a small bowl, combine coriander, ginger, salt, cuin, turmeric, smoked paprika and cardamom. Whisk until well combined. 
2. Divide mixture into baggies, secure with twince and set aside. 
3. Divide popcorn kernels into jars, tuck 1 baggie in each jar, seal and decorate. 

Get creative: 

To make sweet cinnamon gourmet popcorn, substitute 12 tablespoons salt, 26 tablespoons sugar and 12 tablespons cinnamon for the spice mixture. 

To use: 

Combine 1 tablespoons spice mixture with 3 tablespoons vegetable oil. In a 3-quart or larger pot over medium-high heat, heat another 3 tablespoons vegetable oil. Add 1/3 cup pocorn kernels and cover with lid. Shake pot gently and allow kernels to pop. Once popped, transfer to a servings bowl, drizzle spiced oil over the top and toss until well coated. Enjoy! 

Homemade Pumpkin Spice 

You'll need: 

11 1/4 cups Frontier Organic Ceylong Cinnamon 
2 1/2 cups Frontier Organic Ground Nutmeg 
2 1/2 cups Frontier Organic Ground Ginger 
2 cups Frontier Organic Allspice 
1 3/4 cups Frontier Organic Ground Clove 
10 pint jars 

To make: 

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine cinnamon nutmeg, ginger, allspice and ground cloves. Divide into jars and seal.

To use: 

Use in pumpkin pies, fold into whipped cream, spinkle on lattes, oatmeal, yogurt, smoothies, granola and more! 

Rosemary and Thyme Turkey Rub 

You'll need: 

6 1/4 cups Frontier Organic Ground Thyme 
6 1/4 cups Frontier Organic Ground Rosemary 
3 cups + 2 tablespoons Frontier Organic Ground Sage 
3 cups + 2 tablespoons Frontier Organic Black Pepper 
1 1/4 cups Frontier Organic Garlic Powder 

To make: 

1. In a large bowl, combine thyme, rosemary, sage, black pepper and garlic pwoder. Stir until well mixed. 
2. Divide into jars and decorate.

To use: 

Brush a turkey with olive oil, then season generously with turkey rub. 

Goji Berry, Ginger and Dark Chocolate Trail Mix 

You'll need: 

8 cups raw almonds 
8 cups raw cashews 
5 tablespoons coconut oil, melted 
1 1/2 teaspoons Frontier Organic Ground Cinnamon 
6 cups Frontier Orgaic Goji Berries 
6 cups Frontier Organic Pumpkin Seeds 
6 cups dark chocolate chunks 

To make: 

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 
2. Toss raw almonds and cashews in melted coconut oil and cinnamon. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and toast for 5 to 8 minutes, stirring every 2 to 3 minutes, until browned and aromatic. 
3. In a large mixing bowl, toss nuts with goji berries, crystallized ginger, pumpkin seeds and chocolate chunks. 
4. Divide into jars, seal and decorate. 

To use: 

Simply eat up! 

Cinnamon Orange Potpourri 

You'll need: 

7 1/2 cups Frontier Organic Whole Cloves 
10 cups Frontier Organic Whole Cardamom Pods 
15 cups dried orange slices 
15 cups Frontier Organic Cinnamon Sticks 
7 1/2 cups Frontier Organic Whole Star Anise 
10 48-ounce jars 

To make:

1. In each jar, layer 3/4 cups cloves, 1 cup cardamom pods, 1 1/2 cups dried orange slices, 3/4 cups whole star anise and 1 1/2 cups cinnamon sticks. 
2. Seal and decorate. For optimum aroma, let sit for 2 weeks before gifting. 

To use: 

Open lid or transfer to a bowl and bring a warm, spicy aroma to your space. 

Quick tip: 

Make your own dried orange slices by placing 1/4-inch thick orange slices on an oven rack and a rimmed sheet under the rack. Bake at 225 degrees for 3 hours, turning slices every 45 minutes to prevent burning. You'll need about 15 oranges to make 15 cups dried slices. 

Choose a Tea 

You'll need: 

10 cups Frontier Organic Tea (of your choosing) 
10 pint jars 

To make: 

Simply fill each jar with a single tea or a blend of teas.

To use: 

Pour 6 fluid ounces simmering water over 1 teaspoon tea. Let steep for 4 to 5 minutes, then strain and drink up.
