Frontier Co-op Highly Commended for Social and Human Capital Award at 13th Annual Reuters Responsible Business Awards

The recognition commends the co-op’s outstanding work investing in its people through its Breaking Down Barriers to Employment initiative

NORWAY, IOWA (November 1, 2022)Frontier Co-op, a leader of sustainably sourced and organic spices, herbs, botanicals and plant-based products, has been “Highly Commended” for its Breaking Down Barriers to Employment initiative by the prestigious Reuters Responsible Business Awards, in the Social and Human Capital Award category, earning the co-op the highest recognition awarded for this category.

Now in its 13th year, the 2022 Responsible Business Awards drew over 700 entries and has served as the benchmark for businesses across the globe that showcase real leadership against their international peers, while recognizing those that genuinely impact business, society and the environment.

The judges’ commendation for Frontier Co-op recognizes its Breaking Down Barriers to Employment initiative for going “above and beyond a benefit program [while] driving value for others,” highlighting how the long-term initiative helps employees and community members overcome systemic barriers to employment and economic mobility by providing access to childcare, transportation, second chance hiring practices and an apprenticeship program.

"Our North Star at Frontier Co-op is the steadfast belief that doing good, works; that striving to have a positive impact in the lives we touch is just good business,” said Tony Bedard, CEO of Frontier Co-op. “To receive this global recognition for our Breaking Down Barriers to Employment initiative among hundreds of impressive peers is a testament to the tangible impact we’ve made within our communities and reinforces that a purpose-driven company can be both financially successful and make a difference.”

Launched in 2017, the Breaking Down Barriers to Employment initiative not only advances Frontier Co-op’s commitment to social giving, but also serves as an innovative recruitment tactic that allows the company to meet staffing needs and contributes to a more diverse workforce.
