NORWAY, IOWA (April 4, 2018) —Frontier Co-op selected SiteGen Solar (SGS) to construct solar projects at three of its facilities in Eastern Iowa. Together, the projects generate 435kw of renewable energy when operating at capacity.

“Frontier Co-op was built on the belief that we have a responsibility to people and planet. Every day, we make a conscious effort to be mindful of our actions and the impact we have on our world. Our transition to solar energy is just one way for us to effectively reduce our footprint and make our impact more positive,” said Frontier Co-op CEO Tony Bedard.

“We hope other Corridor companies follow suit and consider making commitments to reduce their environmental footprint through renewable energy projects,” said Bedard. “Investing in renewable energy, like solar, is an essential part of who we are as both a natural products company and as a cooperative.”

The three solar projects are located at Frontier Co-op facilities in Belle Plaine, Norway, and Urbana. Together, the projects are among the state’s largest and power the equivalent of approximately 72 homes annually.

“Frontier Co-op made a sound investment in renewable energy and we’re happy to provide our expertise to deliver a cost-effective, high-quality solar project,” said Tyler Olson, SGS President. “Iowa businesses constructing solar at their facilities see a great return on investment and lock in their electricity prices for the next 25 years.”

Electricity generated by the solar projects provides 92% of the usage at Belle Plaine, 64% at Norway, and 31% at Urbana. Together, the projects provide the environmental benefit equivalent to planting 259,632 trees, avoiding the consumption of 1,136,586 gallons of gas on the road, or not burning 5,429 tons of coal.
