NewBo City Market is a dynamic public space — and gathering place — promoting health, happiness, and well-being in the heart of the New Bohemia District near downtown Cedar Rapids.
This remarkable nonprofit organization is home to unique food and retail business start-ups, farmers and artisans markets, and numerous events — community arts, entertainment and educational.
NewBo City Market supports locally-sourced foods and products, local entrepreneurship and small business and showcases local talent in their entertainment events. It addresses food insecurity in the community and educates residents on nutrition, wellness, and urban renewal.
Frontier Co-op made a local-giving donation of $30,000 to support NewBo City Market's work in economic development, community engagement and neighborhood revitalization. We have also established the "Frontier Learning Garden" on the Market's site and present "Learning in the Garden" and other educational events there.
The Market goes about its work with an eye toward sustainability, seeking to balance the community needs and environmental impacts. It strives to be a model for sustainable business practices — a rain barrel waters the garden, electric vehicles can charge up for free in the parking lot and the facility is zero-waste, with even the “plastic” forks compostable.
NewBo City Market is a community hub of that enlightens, inspires, and entertains a wide spectrum of people and organizations while making a strong commitment to sustainability. We're glad to support this organization — and to have them in our community.
