Feed Iowa First is a Cedar Rapids nonprofit celebrating its 10th anniversary of combatting food insecurity while supporting local farmers. Through various programs in partnership with local businesses, faith organizations, schools and farms, Feed Iowa First supplies thousands of pounds of fresh produce to local food pantries in Linn County, Iowa every year. Produce is provided at no cost to anyone who needs it, with no eligibility application required.
Feed Iowa First programs include Grow Don’t Mow, which partners with churches and schools to use vacant soil to grow fresh produce; Don’t Waste Donate, which helps area growers redirect excess produce; and Grow Some Rows, which encourages local farmers to dedicate a portion of their land to grow produce for donation.
Feed Iowa First will receive a $30,000 grant from Simply Organic in 2021 to grow their staff, manage partnerships and continue their good work.
