Norway, Iowa (June 2, 2014) — Frontier Natural Products Co-op announced today that its family of vanilla flavorings and extracts has received third-party verification by the Non-GMO Project to confirm that no genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are used in the products.

GMOs are plants or animals created through genetic engineering that merges DNA from different species, creating combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding.

"It's not always easy to know what foods have been genetically modified," said Senior Brand Manager for Frontier Brett Karminiski. "One way our consumers can be certain is to look for the Non-GMO Project Verification label on our growing line of products."

According to the consumer trends and culture consultants The Hartman Group, today nearly 20 percent of consumers say they look for non-GMO verified foods when shopping for foods and beverages.

'We've always been completely transparent with consumers about the source of our products," added Karminski. "Verification is just one more way we are keeping our commitment to provide consumers with the highest-quality organic and natural products while supporting and promoting social and environmental responsibility."

Frontier gives back to the small farmers who sustainably grow the beans used to make this premium organic vanilla extract. Our Well Earth® projects – like digging 49 wells in 38 villages in Madagascar – make life better in their communities.

Frontier's non-GMO verified vanilla extracts and flavorings are available in 2-ounce, 4-ounce and 8-ounce bottles.
