Organizations We Support

Frontier Co-op provides regular support to organizations and causes that share our values about organics, sustainability, social justice and caring for those in need. We’ve listed here a number of major organizations we support.

American Herbal Products Association American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) is the national trade association and voice of the herbal products industry representing the growers, processors, manufacturers and marketers of herbal products. AHPA founded in 1983 with the mission to promote the responsible commerce of herbal products.

Bulk Is Green Council Bulk Is Green Council (BIG) Frontier Co-op is a founding member and sits on the board of BIG, an organization dedicated to helping consumers, food makers and grocers learn about the many environmental and economic benefits of bulk foods.

Camp Courageous of Iowa Camp Courageous of Iowa provides opportunities for social and personal growth within a supportive, safe environment to any person with a disability. Campers learn to experience success in a variety of activities. The camp annually serves nearly 5,000 campers, ranging in age from 1 to 100.

Co-op Grocers Network Co-op Grocers Network (CGN) has as their mission to strengthen retail food cooperatives by providing a vehicle that facilitates the sharing of resources amongst its members. CGIN acts as vehicle for exchange of ideas and information among retails co-ops.

Ecological Farming Association Ecological Farming Association (EcoFarm) is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1981 to promote an agricultural system that is ecologically sound, economically viable and socially just. EFA is dedicated to the development of ecologically based food systems, both domestically and throughout the world.

Green America Green America is a national nonprofit organization founded in 1982 to provide the economic strategies, organizing power and practical tools improve our economic system and create businesses that create jobs, care about their communities, engage in fair trade and protect our environment.

National Cooperative Business Association National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA) is the leading national membership association representing cooperatives of all types and in all industries. NCBA’s mission is to develop, advance and protect cooperative enterprise, helping co-ops strengthen their businesses so they can better serve their members.

North Country Development Fund North Country Development Fund (NCDF) is a cooperatively owned and operated financial intermediary that acts as a catalyst for the growth and development of cooperatives. Founded in 1978, NCDF has been providing access to capital and other resources to consumer, worker, housing and agricultural cooperatives across the upper Midwest.

Organic Center for Education & Promotion Organic Center for Education & Promotion (The Organic Center) communicates credible, science-based organic benefits to the public, resulting in greater awareness and use of organic products, the conversion of agriculture to organic methods, and improved health for the Earth and its inhabitants.

Organic Farming Research Foundation Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) is a non-profit whose mission is to sponsor research related to organic farming practices, to disseminate research results to organic farmers and to growers interested in adopting organic production systems, and to educate the public and decision-makers about organic farming issues.

Organic Trade Association Organic Trade Association (OTA) is a membership-based business association for the organic industry in North America. OTA’s mission is to encourage global sustainability through promoting and protecting the growth of diverse organic trade.

Practical Farmers of Iowa Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI) is a non-profit, educational organization with over 700 members in Iowa and neighboring states. Their mission is to research, develop and promote profitable, ecologically sound and community-enhancing approaches to agriculture. They carry out diverse programs to assist farmers and raise public awareness about food.

Seed Savers Exchange Seed Savers Exchange (SSE) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the world’s genetically and culturally diverse, but endangered, garden heritage for future generations by building a network of people committed to collecting, conserving and sharing heirloom seeds and plants.

United Plant Savers United Plant Savers (UpS) protects native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada and their native habitats through research, education and action with the goal to ensure an abundant renewable supply of medicinal plants for generations to come.
