Chocolate Hummus

An easy, dessert-like dip using fiber-rich chickpeas as the base but made sweet with the help of cocoa powder and maple syrup. The end result is a luscious dip that doesn’t taste like you'd think!

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, drained and rinsed

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond butter

  • 3 tablespoons Frontier Co-op Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Powder

  • 1 teaspoon Frontier Co-op Vanilla Extract

  • 1/4 (plus 2 tablespoons) cups maple syrup

  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil

  • 1/4 teaspoon Frontier Co-op Table Grind Sea or Kosher Flake Salt

  • water, for smoothing

Directions

    1. In a food processor, add chickpeas, almond butter, cocoa powder, vanilla, 1/4 cup maple syrup, sesame oil and salt. Puree, adding 1/4 cup water at a time, until hummus is smooth. Taste and add more maple syrup as desired for additional sweetness.
    2. Transfer hummus to a bowl and serve with pretzels, strawberries, and apples.
